Greetings,

Yesterday (7/15), I had a Bonaparte's Gull on the north side of the
Susquehanna Flats (Chesapeake Bay) in Cecil County; The area is directly in
front of the mouth of Furnace Bay. Admitting my ability to age gulls is rather
limited, this bird looked like an adult in winter plumage at rest. In flight,
however, the mantle was not clean, it had some brown/gray tones; the white
leading edges of the wings were present and the the under wings were whitish
(second summer?)

Other birds present included 12-15 Adult Ring-billed Gulls, a lone Great Black-
backed Gull, a single adult Forster's Tern, 6 Least Terns, 6 Double-crested
Cormorants, 3 Great Blue Herons, 2 Ospreys, and 16 TVs.

I also got a second hand report of a Barn Owl (possibly two) being heard on
Elk Neck (Cecil County) near the North End of the State Park.

Good Birding,
Chris Starling
