I started the morning at the north end of Liberty Lake where the water level has continued to fall but the shorebird population has changed little:
Canada Goose 1
Black Duck 1
Mallard 3
Killdeer 15
Spotted Sandpiper 3
Greater Yellowlegs 1
Lesser Yellowlegs 1
Least Sandpiper 7
Kingfisher 1
Kingbird - nest still has young

My next stop was the Westminster Reservoir where I heard one Canada Goose

One more try for Upland Sandpipers at the Westminster Airport was finally successful. This is only the second county record. The first was over 20 years ago at a now-defunct turf farm by Rick Blom. This morning I saw two birds meandering around the southern section of the airport. This is visible from Meadow Branch Road off Route 97. The birds were between the runway and the road where it runs parallel to the runway. They were very close to the runway which puts them almost a quarter mile away. For the hour I was there they worked the area from near the end of the runway to near the big hangar. They disappeared for a while, probably in the rolling terrain on that side of the runway. They never flew, even when planes were taking off and landing.
