Sometimes things come out of our mouths just the opposite of what we
intended. I made a lot of mistakes at this first conference, but one
was a major whooper. I left the impression that Gwen Brewer had
abruptly left her position mid-year and Dave Ziolkowski had to step
in. This couldnąt be further from the truth. While Gwen announced
her intention to leave mid-year, she identified the right person to
take over and worked throughout
the rest of the year, as chair, for a smooth transition. Gwen has
served
this organization in an exemplary and first-rate fashion for many
years, and I apologize to her and to the attendees at the conference
for the terrible mistake.
