Yesterday morning I visited Hashawha Environmental Center for a quick walk before the deluge started. Among the breeding birds Pewees, Red-eyed Vireos, Field Sparrows, and Indigo Buntings seemed to be the most common of the birds still singing. Surprising was an immature Rose-breasted Grosbeak in a mixed flock of robins, tanagers, and orioles; my second earliest ever in fall in Carroll County.
