Observers were, Tom Raub, The Parke, Lin and Jim Jest, Nacole Wilson, Kevin and Alison Laird, Richard Center, Vicki Costa, Richard Dunham, Beth Olsen and Led by Sean McCandless
We had a nice early fall cold front pass thru, just in the nick of time and the timing couldn't have been more perfect for a bird trip to Turkey Point. We started out a bit slow with the usual residents. A Screech Owl calling back and more Blue Gray Gnatcatchers than you can shake a stick at. We did have a few Warblers flitting around early, but they didn't land,so we could get on them right away.
The wind was blowing strong out of the Northwest so as expected loads of Bald Eagles and Ospreys were riding the wind currents along the cliffs edge. We had many great views. As our walk proceeded we did turn up a 1st year Broad-wing Hawk heading South across the first field and then a few more as the morning progressed. I think we should consider Hawk Counting earlier in the season at the point, especially with a passage of a cold front.
I HOPE SOMEONE IS GOING TO CHECK OUT TURKEY POINT TOMORROW> The day after a front is even better! I cant make it.
