Hi All,
Today I followed Kurt's strategy (thank you for your posting:))and stopped
on the bridge crossing the river and - success!!. A quick scan with the
binoculars downstream located the ibis foraging on the BaCo side of the
river. I parked on the HoCo side and walked along the opposite shore and
got great view of the White Ibis feeding alongside a Green Heron. It
crossed the river once but soon returned to the BaCo side where it was
still foraging under the overhanging canopy about 150-200 yards downstream
from the bridge when I left. There is a slight bend in the river so one
might not see the bird from the bridge at times. It successfully caught
and ate 15+ large crustacens during the hour I watched it. A Great Blue
Heron also landed in a tree close by and a Belted Kingfisher flew upstream
during my stay.
The rain was hardly noticable under the canopy by the river bank. I will
post photos of the ibis later today.
Good birding,
Frode Jacobsen
