After a slow morning at Rock Creek Park, I tried Hughes Hollow, getting
there after 10 and staying an hour and a half.
On the drought-dried ground around the marsh, there were LEAST SANDPIPER
and KILLDEER as before, but later also a few WESTERN SANDPIPERS. A
couple of SAVANNA SPARROWS foraged cautiously.
On the dead trees along the main dyke 8 CEDAR WAXWINGS perched and foraged.
I left by Hunting Quarter Road. About halfway to River Road, there was
an OSPREY sitting in a dead tree eating a fish.
Other birds seen at the marsh included:
Red-shouldered hawk (juvenile)
Wood duck (8)
Great egret
Great blue heron
Green heron (numerous)
Ruby-throated hummingbird (also seen at RCP)
Indigo bunting
