Young Barred Owls also give a "hissing" call ...

This is from the vocalization section in the BNA online account ...

"Owlets make begging calls within moments of 
hatching and continue to do so throughout the 
nestling period (Elderkin 1987). Older young, up 
to 4 mo of age, beg food from parents by making a 
regular squeaking sound that verges on a hiss. 
Each call lasts about 3 s and is repeated at intervals of 10–30 s (Bent 1938)."
