Friday became a very big day for special birds at Central Sod Farm. In
the morning around 9:30 I stopped over there to check on the possible
Baird's Sandpiper that had been previously reported. Bill Hubick and others
were there, and Bill was able to immediately aim my viewing toward two
little Baird's Sandpipers that were quite close to the road. The Baird's
were a bonus, for the other birders had come looking for the Buff-breasted
Sandpipers - and they were not disappointed. All three of the previously
reported Buffies were eventually found.

This afternoon around 5:00, I received a phone call from that same Bill
Hubick. He was back at the Sod Farm, and was calling to report the arrival
of two Upland Sandpipers right then. I hurried over to the place, and the
birds were still around, most of the time using the same dry-grass field.
While I was there, three other birders came along, and I had the joy of
helping all of them find the Uppies, the Buffies and even the Baird's, for
these other species had apparently stayed through the day. In the field
there were also at least a dozen Killdeer and a similar number of Horned
Larks. A Greater Yellowlegs did a fly by, and a few Barn Swallows and Tree
Swallows were also around.

Certainly a delightful birding day at the sod farm.
