I first reported seeing wild turkeys in Fort Dupont
Park, S.E., Washington
on Feb. 4, 2006 (Voice of the Naturalist). According
to the National Park
Service, that was the first report in the park. Since
then I have seen them
three other times while hiking in the park, each time
in the Ridge Picnic
Area. The gardeners at the community gardens (which
is near the Ridge
Picnic Area) now report seeing them regularly.

About five years ago, I also saw one wild turkey on
the D.C. side of Oxon
Cove, which is at the far southern tip of the
District.
