This morning I visited the turf farm near Delmar that was reported Friday. I ran into Sam Dyke there. He says it is an unnamed turf farm with the land being leased by Oakwood Turf Farm of Salisbury. There is a pool in the middle of the stripped area off Taylor Road. Birders may visit but must absolutely stay off the turf. Today there were 12 species of shorebirds present:
Golden Plover 2 molting adults
Semipalmated Plover 6
Killdeer 50
Solitary Sandpiper 1
Greater Yellowlegs 1
Lesser Yellowlegs 6
Semipalmated Sandpiper 6
Western Sandpiper 6
Least Sandpiper 20
White-rumped Sandpiper 1
Pectoral Sandpiper 9
Buff-breasted Sandpiper 1
Earlier, about 6:45, I stopped at Central Sod Farms in Queen Anne's County. The only shorebirds visible were 17 Killdeer and a Snipe. Must have been too early for the good birds. I also stopped there on the way home, about 11:00. The booming of the rockets left no shorebirds in sight on the ground but put some distant Killdeer into the air. Must have been too late for the good birds.
