Hi Everyone,

I decided to do some birding after work today and checked out locations around Triadelphia Reservoir. I started at Brown's Bridge Road in Howard County, where the habitat was promising, but the birds were few. A bit of scanning produced only one KILLDEER and several GREEN HERONs. There was nothing of note at Brighton Dam, but I had better luck at the Triadelphia access at the end of Green Bridge Road. A scan of the reservoir produced one each of adult CASPIAN TERN, BANK SWALLOW, TREE SWALLOW, BARN SWALLOW, and OSPREY. Only the Tree and Barn remained in Howard County during my visit; the others visited the airspace of both counties. Before leaving, the sounds of chickadees convinced me to stick around for a few minutes. A bit of pishing brought in a small, chastising flock of chickadees, titmice, and White-breasted Nuthatches, followed by three RED-EYED VIREOs. I quickly gave it a rest and then scanned the trees, almost immediately spotting a beautifully plumaged
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH on one of the tree trunks. It seems it might end up being a good year for them.

I worked around the reservoir, checking the sod farms for grasspipers and stopping at Big Branch. Here I had a flock of 25 CEDAR WAXWINGs, two RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDs working the cardinal flowers, a GRAY CATBIRD, and three COMMON YELLOWTHROATS.

  Is it the weekend yet?

  Good birding,

  Bill
