Hi Everyone,

Inspired by Sean's report of 20 Black Terns in Cecil Co., I decided to do a bay watch at Fort Smallwood this afternoon. I was joined by Matt, Fiona, and Kermit Tillett, as well as by Fort Smallwood's finest, Ranger Matt Grey. The weather seemed a little too nice for much movement, and soon the Tilletts had to bid adieu. At about 6:05, I spotted a small dark tern approaching and landing on the closest white buoy to the main pond and hawkwatch area. It was in fact a BLACK TERN, which we were able to study at length. It was still there when I had to leave at 6:20. Also present were several LAUGHING GULLS, three CASPIAN TERNs (2 adult, 1 juvenile), six GREAT EGRETs, four SNOWY EGRETs, and 1 adult LITTLE BLUE HERON. We didn't see the TRICOLORED HERON, but I've only been seeing it about every other visit.

  Good birding!
