Hi all,
I birded North Branch tonight and had some really nice birds. When I first
arrived, I saw multiple BLACK TERNS flying around the tarps and ponds,
searching the tarps, I also found a couple of Western Sandpipers. There
was a nice mixed flock of passerines which held one PHILADELPHIA VIREO
(heard singing and seen), one CERULEAN WARBLER, and one WORM-EATING WARBLER
among others. Dave Kayzak joined me just as the flock of passerines started
moving on. We headed down the trail along the C&O Canal when he pointed out
a dark heron on a log, sure enough, a juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON!
J.B. Churchill, David Yeany II, and Ray Kiddy all got out to see this bird
which was really cooperative. Pictures can be seen via the link at the
