Hi Everyone,

I made a quick stop at Fort Smallwood after work. Sightings of note around the pond were one PIED-BILLED GREBE (first of the season here for me), LITTLE BLUE HERON (1 adult), SNOWY EGRET (2), GREAT EGRET (1), SEMIPALMATED PLOVER (my first at the park), and a pair of NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDs with three recently fledged young. Common Buckeyes are everywhere in the park today. There were also a couple Black Swallowtails.

Afterward, a couple friends joined me for kayaking Rock Creek, where we had the following:

Wood Duck--5 (Yates Pond in Weinberg Park)
  Mallard--20
  DC Cormorant--2
  Great Blue Heron--3
  Little Blue Heron--1 adult
  Black-crowned Night-heron--1 adult
  Turkey Vulture--2
  Osprey--3
  Bald Eagle--1 adult
  Spotted Sandpiper--2
  Least Sandpiper--1
  Laughing Gull--2
  Ring-billed Gull--1
  Herring Gull--3
  Caspian Tern--8
  RT Hummingbird--1
  Eastern Kingbird--1

Last night on my back patio, Becky and I were delighted to find another Eastern Worm Snake, the second we've found in the yard.

  Good birding,

  Bill
