I imagine that everyone has noticed by now that the price of sunflower seed
has risen over the past couple of months. Central Tractor Supply has 50
pounds for $17.84, but I just hit a grand opening sale at a Dover store for
$15.84. The cashier told me that they sold 4 pallets in one day, which
meant I got a rain check.
With fall coming, I thought it might be worthwhile to ask about prices for
seed in the state. Prices may drop as the new harvest comes in. I have no
idea about how the sunflower seed crop has been affected by the weather.
Another question also comes to mind. I did a fruitless internet search
trying to compare the merits of buying shelled sunflower seed versus seed
still in the shell. I priced 20 pounds of shelled at $19.64 versus $17.84
for 50 pounds of in the shell. Messiness aside, I image someone, somewhere
has done a cost comparison. I could not find any studies.
Thanks.

ps: I do not have a scale accurate enough to weigh small quantities of seed
accurately. |
