Although I was unable to do any early birding this week, I made
it up to Middle Patuxent EA twice. Both times I parked in the
Trotter Road parking area and walked around the ongoing
construction project.

On Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 4) I was specifically hoping for a
NASHVILLE WARBLER - and found one (a state bird for me),
in the same grapevine with a bright YELLOW-THROATED VIREO.

By mid-morning on Thursday (Sept. 6), it was already quite warm
and the birds were mostly quiet. Besides the usual catbirds,
cardinals, and chickadees, I managed to find the following:

Eastern Wood-Pewee - 5+ (near the river)
Red-eyed Vireo - 1 singing
BROWN CREEPER - 1 (my FOY)
American Robin - 20+ (in the woods)
Magnolia Warbler - 1
Black-and-White Warbler - 1
American Redstart - 1
Common Yellowthroat - several

By the way, it looks like the fields at MPEA are being managed
for butterflies. Mostly Tiger and Black Swallowtails, but there
are zillions of them (a conservative estimate).
