Thanks to Helen Horrocks for posting a message earlier today,
reporting the sighting of a group of six Buff-breasted Sandpipers
south of Frederick. Helen posted as a result of a call from me to
Lydia Schindler and a call from Lydia to Helen.

The location in question is actually at 2522 (not 2722) Buckeystown
Rd. near where a small car with For Sale signs is parked at the head
of a driveway to a turf farm on the west side of Route 85. This is
about 1/2 mile south of Adamstown Rd.

There is some, but not much, space to park here without blocking
traffic in and out of the farm. One of the owners came to check us
out quite quickly after we had parked around 11 a.m. He was very
polite and did not object to our setting up a scope near the For Sale
car, next to a yellow fire hydrant. Traffic on Route 85 is fast and
furious and utmost care should be taken both parking and walking. And
please don't obstruct the turf trucks that come and go with some frequency.

The 6 Buff-breasted Sandpipers were moving as a tight little group on
the turf to the north of the main farm driveway. This was our first
Frederick County record for the species despite many searches over
the years, and the largest number of "Buffies" we have seen at the
same time in the state of Maryland.
