Despite hordes of people on the Mayo Beach on Saturday and Sunday, the Whimbrel is still sticking around. It retreats to the relative calm of Beverly Beach when the crowd and noise get too much. There it sometimes relaxes on a rock jetty-like island. It is certainly the American race (no white-rump, overall brownish color). It would be hard to find for some one who did not know the area, but I would be glad to help anyone look for it. No promises, since it wanders over a long stretch of beach. Early morning is the best time. Phone 410-798 6078. |
