This afternoon I checked the waterbirds at Piney Run Park and found one surprise bird. The water level is down slightly and there is a small mud flat at the upper end of the lake at White Rock Road.

Canada Goose 465
Other geese: 2 probable hybrids Canada X Greylag and 1 all-white Greylag
Black Duck 3
Mallard 30
Blue-winged Teal 4
Green-winged Teal 6
Pied-billed Grebe 5
Great Blue Heron 4
Great Egret 2
Little Blue Heron 1 immature
Green Heron 1
GLOSSY IBIS 1 immature seen from White Rock Road
Killdeer 3
Lesser Yellowlegs 1
Least Sandpiper 5
Ring-billed Gull 2
Kingfisher 2

In the evening I checked Liberty Lake from the end of Oakland Road. Construction of the expansion to the water treatment plant has wiped out part of the old trail. Take the trail to the north (next to the portable toilets) and follow the sign for the new fishing trail. It is rough and convoluted and when you get to the last yellow flag on the trail you go uphill a few feet to continue on the old trail.

Canada Goose 29
Gadwall 1 female
Mallard 19
Pied-billed Grebe 1
Great Blue Heron 1, Baltimore Co. only
Double-crested Cormorant 12
Ring-billed Gull 3
Nighthawk 1, Baltimore Co. only
Kingfisher 4
