My friend and I saw a Waterthrush yesterday (Sunday 9-23) on the canal at Seneca, and
debated a lot about Louisiana vs. Northern. Its underside from the legs to the tail seemed
almost yellow, rather than buff, but this could have been do to late afternoon sunlight
reflecting off the white, dead branch on which it perched. The eyeline seemed very distinct,
but I confess that I didn't know the fieldmark differences between Northern and Louisiana
while we observed the bird. When I read the descriptions in the guide, after it had flown
away, I, of course, hadn't made note of the marks which would help distinguish the two...
