Hi All,

We had to drop one of our (2) cars off in town for some repairs and I
came home via Great Oak Pond. The geese are arriving. There were 340
Canada Geese at the pond and in the surrounding fields, and migrants
have been spending the night on Mill Creek here at Chesapeake Landing.
Other waterfowl included 7 Northern Pintail, 2 Northern Shovelers, 140
Green-winged Teal, and a black duck with the 34 Mallards. The two white
domestic geese that summered at the pond have been joined by a third,
the Snow Goose was not there today. There also was a domestic
greylagXCanada Goose hybrid mixed in with the Canada Geese.

Shorebirds numbered eight species including a RUDDY TURNSTONE (probably
juvenile), a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 15 STILT SANDPIPERS, 2 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 30 Lesser Yellowlegs, 14 Pectoral Sandpipers, 7 Semipalmated
Sandpipers, and 2 Killdeer.

Yesterday we had a Purple Finch in our yard as well as about five
Red-breasted Nuthatches.

Good birding,

Walter Ellison
