I spent a good part of the night owling, mostly in Somerset County. The clear
night, calm winds, bright moon, and cool temperatures (down to 43 degrees)
must have been pleasing to the owls since they were calling at most stops
(without any coaxing with tapes). The final tally was 11 Great Horned Owls
and 7 Eastern Screech-owls -- 2 GHO's each in Talbot and Wicomico, and 7
GHO's and 7 screech-owls across 4 locations in Somerset.
The daytime birding was slower unless you really like Red-breasted
Nuthatches. Highlights from the morning include:
