Dear All
Further to Wallace's post some things to add from a good morning birding in
Rock Creek. Persistence paid with good birds still coming in to the
Maintenance Yard up until at least 10am.
The warbler diversity was good. i think i am right in saying that between us
we manged 16 species in the yard and on the ridge all told vis:
1. Black-throated Green
2. Black-throated Blue
3. Cape May (Stables)
4. Yellow-rumped (oh no they're back!)
5. Black & White
6. Bay-breasted
7. Pine (2 by the stables)
8. Blackpoll
9. Blackburnian (Yard)
10. Magnolia
11. Chestnut-sided
12. Palm (Yard)
13. Redstart
14. Parula
15. CONNECTICUT
16. Yellowthroat
Plus Ovenbird if you count that as a warbler. Not a bad morning.
Most of the action was warbler orientated but there were good flights of jays,
several Red-breasted Nuthatchs, one Broad-winged Hawk and Barry had an
very Summerish Tanager early in the morning in the yard.
Greg Butcher and I gave the grassy area of the Dog Run a walk through at the
end of the morning which was productive yielding a Savannah Sparrow and a
very obliging LINCOLN'S SPARROW which hung around in the hedge line on the
far edge of the field for a while.
Good birding!
