Greetings,
Me again... I wanted to take a moment to invite everyone out there to visit
Turkey Point on Sunday, October 14th. The TURKEY POINTERS will once again
be hosting a circle for the Birder's Digest BIG SIT.
Last year, our inaugural year, was a smash success. Good weather and great
well-knowledged, eyes and ears led us to 89 species in just over seven hours.
This qualified us as the birdiest circle in Maryland and the SIXTH birdiest circle
in North America!
Participants for this year so far are Chris Starling and Sean McCandless;
however, I am sure that more of our local birders will be out for the event.
Our circle is located at the Turkey Point area of Elk Neck State Park in Cecil
County. Specifically we will be confined to a seventeen foot diameter piece of
real estate adjacent to the lighthouse giving us excellent views of deciduous
forest, cedar evergreens, natural fruiting trees/vines, as well as a grass
meadow, the Chesapeake Bay and a natural autumn migratory hawk trap.
I look forward to this event and hope to see you out there.
Note: to get to the circle a walk of approx. 1 mile over gravel road is required.
Good birding,
Chris Starling
