> Please, let's not lose focus on this thread being directed at the folks
that have set-up the Atlas Photo Contest and an appeal by the community to
correct the situation before it becomes more of a disaster for them than it
already is. It is obvious that those responsible have failed to think this
out well and their failure to do so has already alienated most of the
superior birding and photo talent in the region.

All,

Without using any names without their permission, I was informed tonight
that this "contest" is the brain storm of one person and that other members
of a committee that met last night were unable to persuade that person that
the idea would have the effect that it is having- just what Ed says -
alienation. It appears to me that the quality of a very important document -
the Atlas - could be compromised.
Again, without naming names, perhaps that person ought to be replaced or
simply resign. The layout of the Atlas has to be bigger than one person. I
hope somebody with some input is reading all this.
To me it's real simple - do we want the kind of photographic quality one
gets from the Hubicks, Jetts and Staszs (is that a word?) of MD or do we
want some blurry crap that somebody like me would produce? Using a camera
correctly isn't anything that comes easily. I've seen what the good ones do
and I've seen what I can do. And there's about a million miles worth of
difference.
The choice is ours and letting one person make a decision like this sounds
somewhat undemocratic at the very least.
