A Dark Eyed Junco appeared at the feeder late this afternoon and just sat
there and ate. Must have been hungry.
At around 3:00 pm I heard a small bonk at the window and went to see what
had the run-in. I looked down and saw a Golden Crowned Kinglet laying on
the ground. I ran out and gently picked it up, praying that it was still
alive and it was. There was life in its eyes but it was definitely stunned.
I held it in my hands for nearly 10 minutes before it was steady enough to
stand up and look around, trying to figure out where it was. After another
minute or so, it flew off to a nearby bush. My wife did take some pictures,
using film.
I now that you read and see the dimensions about how small a Kinglet is, but
let me tell you, when I held one in my hand, I was amazed at how tiny it
is. Unbelievable!
