I birded a few spots on Friday (en route to the pelagic that wasn't)
and today. On Friday at Blackwalnut Point (Talbot County) I had a
MERLIN and an immature GREAT CORMORANT. There were other signs of
hawk migration there too but counting was tough because there would be
5 sharpies heading out over the bay and 10 minutes later there'd be 5
sharpies heading in from the bay etc etc. I counted 13 sharpies (at
least 5 individuals seen at one time) and 3 Cooper's Hawks (at least
2). There were also 2 Kestrels and 3 Bald Eagles there. At the
Easton Sewage Treatment Plant there were 2 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERs, 4
STILT SANDPIPERS, Dunlin, Pectorals, both Yellowlegs, Pintail,
Shovelors, and both Teal.

Birding the ORV zone at Assateague was fun this morning and Mikey
Lutmerding was finding us a fair number of Lesser Black-backed Gulls
as we worked our way south to the Fox Hill Levels. I was lucky enough
to see the Western Kingbird and the peewee at the State Park (found
and posted to MDOSPREY by Mark Hoffman earlier today) before starting
to head home.
