My husband and I birded Turkey Point today in the afternoon. Lots of GOLDEN
CROWNED KINGLETS, one RUBY CROWNED KINGLET, REDBREASTED
NUTHATCHES and 2 BLUE HEADED VIREOS. We spend some time with Richard
at the hawkwatch and enjoyed seeing several SHARP-SHINNED and COOPER'S
HAWKS. The parking lot had a BLACK THROATED GREEN WARBLER. After
lunch, we decided to bird ELk Neck State Forest, off of Irish Town Rd. We
drove the dirt road and stopped at areas that sounded birdy. Again, lots of
REDBREASTED NUTHATCHES along with both KINGLETS. Had another BLUE
HEADED VIREO-it seems we have been having great luck finding them this
year. Best birds were a MERLIN in flight and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER - which I
thought was late. A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK flew out of nowhere and send the
poor birds scattering! A thrill for us but kept the poor birds on their toes!
