Hi all,
House work kept me home this weekend so I briefly birded around the yard.
Saturday I found my first (and only) White-throated Sparrow perched in a small
cherry tree, looking either very tired or perhaps injured somehow. It sat
for the longest time, very un-sparrowlike. This was number 73.

Sunday morning I saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker fly across the yard and
disappear in the front, for # 74. Then birding along the tree-line in back I had
a Golden-crowned Kinglet followed by Ruby-crowned Kinglet (#75 & 76). Later
in the early evening as I was standing down by the road after taking out the
trash, I tried calling for screech owl, and got a response from the woods
across the street. Just after this (at nearly dusk) I heard Wood Ducks from
overhead, and looked up to see a flock of 19 backlit against the setting sun as
they flew overhead, making #77!

Earlier in the afternoon I saw an adult Bald Eagle flying over and circling
above the fields next door. Not a new yard bird but still very nice!

As my yard list increases I try to imagine the next 3-5 birds I think I
should see. The last set included sapsucker, White-throated Sparrow and
Ruby-crowned Kinglet to bring my list to 75. Instead I saw the Golden-crowned, but
still sort of predictable. My next birds I should see include Brown Creeper,
Tundra Swan, perhaps White-crowned Sparrow and maybe a Blue-headed Vireo. We'll
see...

Good birding,
