While I am happy to hear that the President cares about the birds,
actions need to align with words. Protections need to be strengthened
and maintained. Strip malls, office complexes and housing developments
are steadily etching away the natural areas.

That said, it's vital to make these already urbanized parts of our
region more hospitable to wildlife.

Rebuilding natural areas on school grounds while educating children
about the natural world.

Getting school kids outdoors and involved in nature and the
environment is crucial. While some schools do a great job, others are
falling behind. I propose this:

Government can not do everything. Everyone should be vigilant and
vocal about protecting our environment. Acting locally will go a long
way in solving many of the problems facing our region... and it's far
better than waiting for the government.

I'll get down off of the soapbox and get back to admiring the WHITE
THROATED SPARROW moonwalking in the mulch in search of a meal outside
of my window.

Good birding!
