There's a nice article in the November 2007 "What's Up? Annapolis" by Dotty Holcomb Doherty entitled "Protected Habitats Invite Birds to the Eastern Shore," pages 71-76.  She gives a brief run down on Backwater NWR, Eastern Neck NWR, Martin NWR, Pickering Creek Audubon Center and the Wildfowl Trust of North America.  The article concludes with mentioning some birding sites on the western shore and a list of web sites where more information may be obtained.
