With all the birds on the move, the great finds yesterday, additional
reports from this morning, and the Marine Corp Marathon completed, I decided
to venture out to some spots in DC this (Sun, 10/28) afternoon. I visited
the Anacostia River Park and Hains Pt. There were several "Yellow" PALM
WARBLERS along the Anacostia, and many LAUGHING GULLS flying downriver.
Otherwise it was the standard fare. At Hains Pt. I saw 1 adult basic
BONAPARTE'S GULL flying up the Washington Channel, which was an October
first for me. Near the mulch pile and the service road on the south end of
the golf course, there was a good mix of sparrows, with the best being 3
imm. WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS. Also present were FIELD, SONG, WHITE-THROATED
and SWAMP SPARROWS, and DARK-EYED JUNCO. Not quite as exciting as some of
the other reports, but a nice way to get some fresh air.

Good birding,
