On my way in along the Paint Branch Trail this morning, a MERLIN was present
at the swamp. Though up in a 40 to 50-foot tall tree, it was very obliging,
affording me perhaps my best study to date of this falcon. He was still
enjoying a little early morning sun when I left 10 minutes later.
Also this morning I finally got a G-C Kinglet on the trail. Late last week
I found a Blue-Headed Vireo while searching for this elusive kinglet.
Still looking for a White-crowned sparrow along the trail... as far as
sparrows, I had Song, White-throated, Field, Swamp, and Junco.
A quick stop at Lake Artemesia produced a pair of Wood Ducks, 35-40
Ring-necked ducks, Ruddies, two Coots, a Kingfisher, a R-C kinglet, a single
yellow Palm Warbler, and a retreating Accipiter.
Good Birding,
