As of 3:30 this afternoon the only report of Red Phalarope sighting for
the day at Blackwater NWR was from around 8:30 in the morning, at the same
place as it had been seen on previous days.
The consolation prize was the presence of several American Avocets. At
3:30 one of them was loafing amongst a flock of ducks just beyond the sharp
left turn onto the road passing pond 5, and three others were visible from
beside the Blackwater River bridge out on Hwy 335. Other birders had
mentioned as many as a total of five seen on the property earlier in the
day.
