Hi All,
Walter Ellison and Nancy Martin will lead a waterfowl trip in
southwestern Kent County this Sunday the 11th. We will meet participants
at the Dollar Store parking lot between Philosopher's Terrace and MD-213
(where Maple Ave becomes Washington Ave) across from the east end of
Spring St in Chestertown at 7:00 AM. It looks like it will be chilly so
dress warmly with layers of clothing. We will visit several locations
including Great Oak Pd, Chesapeake Farms, John Hanson Rd, and Eastern
Neck I.
Speaking of Eastern Neck: Nancy and I had volunteer shop duty at the
Lodge today and I managed to do a little scoping at the end of the Marsh
Overlook trail before we closed-up. There were 50 SURF SCOTERS, 6 BLACK
SCOTERS, 5 Long-tailed Ducks, 20 Bufflehead, and 20 Greater Scaup in the
Chester River Sound offshore. There was also a sapsucker and a
White-breasted Nuthatch in the area, the latter is uncommon on the
Island. Of interest was what gave all indications of being a migratory
flock of 26 Fish Crows over the Lodge heading southwest toward Kent
Island. They may not go far, but they do make directed movements it seems.
Good birding,
Walter Ellison & Nancy Martin
