Hi Nico and others,

Oxygen Pond would be the best for up close with
this bird. I do Christmas Bird Count and Winter Bird
Count there and they're always Hooded Mergansers there
and in good numbers.

Other places would be Old Picnic Area Trail & Loch
Raven Skeet & Trap Club of Loch Raven Reservoir,
waterfowl lake at Druid Hill Park.

It's best to go on weekends or on holiday to see
hoodies at Oxygen Pond as there're heavy trucks
traffic. Directions are be tricky there. From I-695
south toward Key Bridge, take exit 42 Bethlehem Blvd
(Rt 158), right into Peninsula Expry and then right
into Reservoir Rd and keep going to the end and
through oold gates and abandoned guard booth and
you're see the pond on your right.

Waterfowl lake at Druid Hill Park, from I-695, take
exit for I-83 south toward downtown, take exit (The
Maryland Zoo/The Baltimore Zoo) for Druid Park Lake
Drive after leaving ramp into that road, make a right
on 2nd traffic light and go about 1/2 mile, make a
left on Mansion House Drive, then the raod lopp on
left and then on right and you'll see fenced-in lake
on left, often called Waterfowl Lake by zoo staffs (I
worked there 1990-1995)

    Kevin
