After being out of town for a couple of weeks it was interesting to come
home, crank up the bird feeders, and check to see what birds are still
around.
Today the Goldfinches returned in fine numbers - 20 or more - and at
least one Pine Siskin was present in the flock. Others at the feeders
included Red-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Chickadee, Morning Dove, House
Finch, Junco, and many Cardinals and White-throats.
Yesterday, while taking a walk with family visitors after a big
Thanksgiving Dinner, an American Woodcock was flushed from along one of the
paths beyond our meager orchard. Yesterday morning around 10 Cedar Waxwings
stopped briefly in one of our trees, and there have been several shivering
Robins around both yesterday and today.
Lots of Canada Geese are regularly resting on Leeds Creek. Two Mute
Swan continue to hang around, and there were Buffleheads on the creek on
Tuesday afternoon.
