Today I birded from my yard from 9:15 to 11:25, and then from 12:30-1:15. I
had 52 species (listed below). It was very windy and cold, not good birding
weather but there were birds out and about. Highlights were 6 grebes
(together, unusual to see more than 2 at once here), 6 bald eagles (once 4
adults were visible simultaneously, once 2 im's. were soaring together); a
peregrine falcon (probably the same HY bird Bill H. reported; it stooped twice
on an adult eagle while the eagle was flying with a very large catfish, forcing
the eagle to land with its catch - but then it left the eagle alone), a hooded
merganser (first of fall), field sparrow (first of fall here), and purple finch (2).
