I spent 3 hours at CBEC yesterday morning (Wednesday) and enjoyed glorious
weather ... but did not enjoy the plentiful mosquitos ... but only one
no-see-um. (Is there a late date for no-see-ums?) I had youth birders
from Kennard Elementary School and 1 from Centreville MIddle School to help
me out. Among the usual we also had:
Merlin -1 ... zipped by as he headed towards the Narrows
Red-Tailed Hawk -1
Sharp shinned Hawk - 1
Bald Eagle - 3
Cooper's Hawk -1
Kestrel -1 - he had sole posession of what remained of the pond which is
not much. The pond was so small that no ducks were there.
Brown-headed Nuthatch - many!
Pine Siskin - heard, not many
Blue-winged Teal - 4
Bufflehead - many
Ruddy Ducks - many, many
Tundra Swan - 3
Scaup (sp) - 4
Happy Thanksgiving to all and may we all enjoy the birds!

ps: The 7th grade birder reported seeing 2 Golden Eagles over her home on
Saturday. After studying them for as long as they were in sight (her Mom
and sister were not pleased that she did not fetch them, but she did not
want to loose them), she spent the next 30 minutes searching the internet
and bird-books to try to confirm her sighting. She believes that that is
what they were. |
