Steve,
Jim Stasz and I stopped by the Burkittsville Pond late this morning and had
the birds that you posted. In addition to the birds that you reported, there
was a single Snow Goose, at least 2 Cackling Geese, and several Gadwall.
After tanking on anything of interest at Lily Pons, thanks partly to a group
of 4-wheelers riding the trails around the ponds and mostly due to our lack
of exploration, we headed to the Little Seneca Resevoir where we easily
found 1 of the 2 Red-throated Loons reported at the end of last week.
Tridelphia was busy with lots of boaters of various types, thus the
waterfowl was nearly non-existant. We had 4 Mallards, 4 Ruddt Ducks, Canada
Geese, 1 Tundra Swan and a Common Loon. A flock of about a dozen Pipits were
out on the exposed lake bed flats north of the water pipes off Greenbridge
Road. Jim had the best bird of the day while doing a watch at Reno Monument
west of Middletown off Old National Pike and while waiting for me to meet up
with him. Since he found it, and I didn't see it, I won't spoil his thunder,
I'll let him make the post himself.
Good Birding,
Ed Boyd
