Birders,

I just wanted to call attention to a story that was just posted on the
eBird homepage that will be of relevance to birders who use eBird to
enter their sightings and to help track bird distribution and movements
in North America. The story discusses two websites that assist with
estimating distance traveled and area covered, whether it be for
entering an eBird checklist or something else. Read about these sites here:

www.ebird.org

While these distance and area websites are very useful for birders
entering effort data associated with eBird checklists, they have broader
interest as well. Number one below is especially relevant:

1) Estimating *miles by foot *or *miles by car* on a Christmas Bird
Count ('tis the season!)
2) Finding out the area of your yard or favorite park
3) Measuring your morning run
4) Figuring out how far away that Pacific Loon was that you saw from
Ocean City Inlet...

etc. etc. etc.

Enjoy,

Marshall Iliff
