Hi all --

The sunny warm weather didn't make an appearance this morning at Lilypons, Frede4rick Co., so bird activity was probably not at its peak. However there was an obvious reduction in numbers of sparrows since the MBC field trip on the 18th, although we did see 7 species. No sign of any loon.

Most of the activity seemed to be at the perifery of the property -- that is, along the ponds/dry ponds near the Monocacy (Purple Finch, Fox Sparrows), and again, over by the power lines (White-crowned, Tree Sparrows)

Birds of special interest:

Black Duck (~12)
Hooded Merganser (2)
Ring-necked Duck (2)
Great Blue Heron (4-5)
Wilson's Snipe (only 2-3, way down from 11/18)
Cooper's Hawk (2)
Red-shouldered Hawk (2)
Red-tailed Hawk (1)
Am. Kestrel (2)
Winter Wren (1)
Cedar Waxwing (50 at least)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (1)
Swamp Sparrow (~25)
Song Sparrow (45-50)
Field Sparrow (4-5)
Tree Sparrow (8 at least)
Fox Sparrow (3)
White-crowned Sp. (1)
White-throated Sp. (20)
Brown Thrasher (1)
Purple Finch (1 brownie)

Also, quite a passage of Robins and Bluebirds overhead, & large number of Flickers and Blue Jays as well.

As we left, it turned warm and sunny!
