Hi all, I stopped into Perryville Park yesterday up here in Cecil County and the
immediate area of the park was not very birdy. There was a flock of 35 Ring-
necked Ducks 4 Gadwall, 20 Pied-billed Grebes and 350 American Coots.
Forster’s Terns were still abundant about 15 in the Furnace Bay area. The
usual kinglets, creepers, nuthatches, woodpeckers and sparrows were there.
That being said, I then proceeded to the Point to over look the Susquehanna
Flats. Oh boy was it loaded! Thousands of birds. Hundreds of Tundra Swans,
Hundreds of Shoveler’s, good numbers of Grebes, well over 2000 Scaup,
Canada Geese, Ruddy Ducks and so fourth. I believe that there was a flock of
Black Scoters, but I could not make the positive ID. All of the birds were out a
long way and hard to identify everything. Gulls were everywhere as well.
Mostly Ring-billed, But I also saw Laughing, Bonaparte’s, Greater Black-backed,
and Herring. There was at least 50 Foresters Terns on the flats as well.
Anyone having time to scan the flats in this area should have some fun. Its
just that everything is a long way out. A good scope is handy.
I made a quick stop at the Conowingo Dam this morning too. I had a Peregrine
Falcon flying around the dam. The Eagles were putting on the usual great
show. I counted 51 Eagles at the North End. |
