Hi all --

This was posted on VA Birds -- I contacted Noah and he asked me to cross-post to MDOsprey (which he's not on yet, having just moved to Maryland). He also said the bird has not returned despite the House Finches having made several more forays, but he will let us know if it comes back. (Noah lives near intersection of Sligo Creek Parkway and Colesville Rd., so birders in that area should watch their feeders!)

Here's Noah's message, from this morning:

"Birders,
This is from nearby Silver Spring, MD but thought it'd be of interest since
we're located so close to VA as the crow flies.

This morning at my small water bath, with a large flock of house finches, was
an adult male WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL. It stayed for 1-2 minutes and then was
off as an immature COOPER'S HAWK began patroling the yard. If the crossbill
returns or becomes reliable here, I'll let you know.

Noah Kahn
