The newly approved Chesterville Circle (centered in Chesterville, Kent County,
39.27624 N 75.915274 W) will hold its innaugural Christmas Bird Count on
Sunday December 23rd. This circle is in Kent & Queen Anne’s Counties and
includes portions of Sassafrass and Millington Wildlife Management Areas as
well as much open country, tree farms, agricultural lands and all of Chino
Farms an Audubon recognized Important Bird Area. Last year’s trial run with
minimal coverage netted 97 species including Ross’s Geese, Cackling Geese,
Bald Eagles, Merlins, Northern Bobwhite, King Rail, American Woodcock, Long-
eared Owl, Red-headed Woodpecker, Wilson’s Warbler, Yellow-headed
Blackbird and Lapland Longspurs. Interested participants are encouraged to
