Hi all,

This morning on my way into work I stopped to check out a flock of goldfinches on the side of Piney Run Run just south of the PA border. As I stepped out of the truck, the birds took flight as well as a large gray and whitish raptor, I quickly focused my attention to the large bird and got great looks at an adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK, as the finches were flying over head, I heard one bird that sounded quite good for a redpoll, although, I must admit, I was a bit on sensory overload at that moment and wasn't paying as much attention as I should have on the finches! J.B. Churchill and I went out at lunch in hopes of finding the finches, which we did not, we did have a sub-adult NORTHERN SHRIKE on the north shore of Piney Reservoir however. From there we continued on to where the No. Goshawk had been, where we promptly flushed a male and female RING-NECKED PHEASANT, perhaps explaining the goshawks interest in the area.

Here are a few of the highlights-

Piney Run Road

NORTHERN GOSHAWK 1 adult
RING-NECKED PHEASANT 2, male, female
NORTHERN SHRIKE 1 sub-adult
American Tree Sparrow ~6
Horned Lark ~5

Good Birding!
