Hi All,

Nancy and I went to town to do some errands this morning (6 Dec) and
took a short detour to look at Great Oak Pond and environs. The pond is
mostly frozen after the last few cold days and hosted one Ruddy Duck and
a flock of Canada Geese on the ice (plus the two resident white domestic
geese; now there for over nine months). In the vicinity were 2 American
Kestrels; over 50 Horned Larks; 20 AMERICAN PIPITS (on the road next to
the pond); a few Savannah Sparrows; and a single young female SNOW
BUNTING with 15 Horned Larks just east of Handy Point Road half a mile
north of the pond. We also still have a few brown Purple Finches and
three Red-breasted Nuthatches coming to our feeder at home in Chesapeake
Landing.

Good birding,

Walter Ellison & Nancy Martin
