Sorry for the late posting - computer acting up. (Hope it lasts long
enough to finish this e-mail.)
Got to LB much later than usual, about 9AM, and found almost no birds
for the first half-hour. Then found a large flock of bluebirds
(estimate 60, enough to completely surround me - glad they weren't
aggressive), accompanied by about 20 waxwings. That was a little beyond
the first wiggle in Kingsley Trail east of the parking lost. From
there, all the way to the old schoolhouse, I had bluebirds, seen and/or
heard, essentially every step of the way (10 or 12 more waxwings also).
In total, I estimate at least 150 bluebirds, by far the most I've ever
encountered at LB, or maybe anywhere. I walked up the hill toward the
campground, then down, after which I found !no! bluebirds, all the way
back to the parking lot. I wonder if this indicates some kind of
large-scale movement of bluebirds.
No other significant sightings except that I had a 6-woodpecker day (no
Red-headed).
