Tuesday Dec. 18, around noon, at North Beach:
1 BLACK SCOTER
(along the rocks just past the north end of the boardwalk)
around 3:00pm, bay side, Point Lookout:
3 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS
12 + SURF SCOTERS
a few minutes later, in the circle at the lighthouse:
8 SNOW BUNTINGS
We also saw many Buffleheads and Goldeneyes at both locations, plus a few
Horned Grebes. At Point Lookout we saw and heard many of the ducks
formerly known as Oldsquaws, in the bay and on the Potomac.
We are fairly confident that we did not see the Black-headed Gull at
Schoolhouse Pond around 9:30am. There were only about 100 gulls there at
the time, including many Ring-billed and Herring, a few Laughing, and at least
one Lesser Black-backed. They were slipping on the ice.
